How sugar harms the skin and creates wrinkles?

It turns out that wrinkles – the sworn enemies of female beauty – are created, inter alia, from excess sugar. Nowadays sugar is found in almost every food and it affects not only the figure. In addition to smoking, alcohol and excess ultraviolet radiation – sugar is harmful to the skin because it accelerates the aging process.

Sugar is not just an energy provider. Unfortunately, sugars are very active substances and this means that they enter into reactions with fats and proteins. Sugar molecules form strong and long-term bonds and in this way molecules to which they bind are removed from all their activity and affect the structure of the tissues.

Many proteins in the body suffer from sugar every day. It is not visible because the body removes destroyed tissue. At the same time, some proteins regenerate very slowly. For example, collagen – a basic element that is responsible for the structure of the skin. Sugar can damage the skin in two ways. First, it damages the collagen’s ability to restore the skin’s structure. Second, it accelerates the rate of collagen degeneration. Collagen degeneration is the cause of accelerated aging of the skin and leads to the formation of wrinkles.

And if that’s not enough, sugar destroys the hyaluronic acid that is responsible for maintaining the skin’s moisture level, making it dry and wrinkled.

Dark circles under the eyes, loss of skin tension and elasticity, edema, wrinkles, blurring of facial features, pimples and enlarged pores – sweets affect the skin in a very negative way. Sugar not only robs us of our health but also our beauty.
